Susan Ficek is a lawyer with over 30 years of litigation experience. She has appeared before all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada. As former Deputy Director and Senior Counsel with the Ministry of the Attorney General, she was responsible for complex criminal appeals and prosecutions. As Deputy Director for Prosecution Support, she had carriage of and assigned complex international requests for assistance under the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act.
Susan has also represented the government as crown counsel in environmental, civil and administrative law matters. More recently as a member of the Criminal Asset Forfeiture Unit she was responsible for applications to restrain and seize proceeds of crime in Canada and abroad. She has also taught and lectured on criminal law matters before prosecutors and investigators. In 2019 was invited to speak at a conference in England on International Law, specifically on money laundering and proceeds of crime.
